Jeep SUVs are well-known for their performance under difficult driving conditions. With a history rooted in the American military, Jeep vehicles are the top choice of many off-road driving enthusiasts. However, the automaker is not content to rest on its reputation, as modern-day Jeep vehicles continue to impress while performing some of the most daunting trials to ever face an SUV. This spirit of constant excellence drove the automaker to create the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, the fastest Jeep SUV ever made.

Question 1: What can the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk do?

The modern-day Trackhawk entered the world in 2017 as the answer to a rather fanciful engineering problem. Dodge had recently released the Hellcat trims on their Challenger and Charger performance vehicles. The Hellcats allowed Dodge to introduce a new V8 engine capable of producing 707 horsepower. Jeep designers wanted to know what would happen if they put the Hellcat engine into an SUV. The result was the Trackhawk, the fastest Jeep SUV on the market.

The Trackhawk held high expectations from the start. Jeep introduced their new vehicle by announcing that it could reach 60 miles per hour from a full stop in 3.5 seconds. Soon, everyone wanted to see what this new performance SUV could do. As it turned out, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk could excel at many tests, even the unanticipated ones.

Someone clocked the Trackhawk at 181 miles per hour, making it one of the fastest mass-production SUVs on record. Another tester drove a modified Trackhawk over a quarter-mile distance in under ten seconds. A third group hauled a Trackhawk all the way out to Siberia, seeking to break the record for fastest SUV driven on ice. And there, on the frozen surface of the deepest lake in the world, the Jeep Grand Cherokee managed it, achieving a top speed of 174 miles per hour.

Question 2: So how does this work?

The key to the Trackhawk’s success is its its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine. Producing 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque, this engine allows the Trackhawk to tow over 7,200 pounds. In the Trackhawk, this engine is coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

As a performance SUV, the Trackhawk has some surprisingly great features. The 2021 Trackhawk uses Jeep’s Uconnect 4C infotainment system on an 8.4-inch touchscreen, with navigation included. Apple and Android compatibility is standard, and a 19-speaker audio system is available.

As with other Jeep models, the new Trackhawk is covered by a three-year limited warranty and a five-year powertrain warranty.

Question 3: What else do I need to know?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a vehicle offering unrivaled performance. Engineers wondered what would happen if they put a muscle car engine into an SUV, and the Trackhawk is the answer. And it is a rather spectacular answer, indeed.
