When to Buy a New Jeep: After Serious Engine and Battery Trouble

You need to know when to buy a new Jeep. That much is obvious, but then again, when is a good time to buy a new vehicle? Jeep dealers can help you figure it out and can point out signs that indicate something’s wrong.

That being said, if you think your Jeep might bite the dust soon, pay attention to its battery and engine.

When the Jeep’s Battery Goes
Unfortunately, you’ll know pretty quickly when to buy a new Jeep once your battery dies. You’ll keep trying the ignition, to no avail, and will eventually start planning on purchasing your next vehicle. It is important, however, to know the warning signs of a busted battery so you can avoid this unwanted vehicle issue.

Old Battery
Remember, your Jeep’s battery is as old as the vehicle itself (if you haven’t replaced it yet already). On average, vehicle batteries should only last around five years. That means that when you’re around the four- to five-year mark of having the same battery, it might be time to have your battery professionally tested to find out if it needs replacing.

Strange Smells Coming From the Battery
After a battery has overcharged, shorts out, or freezes, it can cause venting gas to come up and produces a foul smell. The venting actually smells like rotten eggs, so if you are unlucky enough to smell that aroma while driving, have your battery inspected immediately.

Dying Engine
Engines don’t last forever, either. It’s important to know the warning signs of a dying engine so you can avoid dangerous situations out on the road.

Problems With the Oil
If you pull out of your driveway and notice a large patch of oil where your Jeep was, you should get your vehicle professional help. Finding an oil lake in your driveway can not only be harmful to family members and animals on your property, but also serves a warning sign that a severe oil leak is currently in your engine.

Engine Constantly Overheating
Although an engine on fire is usually a sign that you do in fact need a new engine, it’s not always a given. If this happens more than once over a short period of time, it probably does mean your engine is overheating and it’s only going to get worse. Time to visit the nearest Jeep or car dealership and drive off in a healthy new ride.

There’s a reason why about 1.02 million Jeeps were sold globally in 2014 — a 39% increase from its 2013 total. These rugged vehicles will be there when you need them, but they don’t last forever. If your Jeep is showing any of these signs, it may be time to consider buying a new ride.
