Both RAM and Ford have been making powerful, rugged trucks for decades. Each company has their own enthusiasts, who will go back-and-forth about which company makes the superior vehicle. The TRX vs Raptor debate perhaps epitomizes this divide.

The TRX and Raptor are top-tier offerings from both companies. They combine the reliability of the 1500 and F-150 base vehicles, respectively, with souped-up off-roading gear and other performance parts. This article is going to compare and contrast the two vehicles, and will certainly take a side in the RAM vs Ford debate.

TRX vs Raptor: Monstrous Engines

The RAM TRX is equipped with an engine that is perhaps best described as monstrous. A 6.2L super-charged Hemi V8 engine powers this beastly truck, and it outputs some truly staggering numbers. The TRX enjoys 702 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, which means that it can go roaring down the road like almost nothing else. One test saw the TRX go from 0 to 60 in just 3.7 seconds.

The Ford Raptor is equipped with a twin-turbo 3.5L Ecoboost V6 engine. This powerful machine tops out at 450 horsepower, and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that can nonetheless be shifted manually by the paddle shifters the vehicle enjoys.

In short, the TRX is much more powerful than the Raptor when it comes to the engine. Both trucks do, however, have more to offer.

Off-roading Galore

The TRX and the Raptor have both been optimized to allow drivers to truly enjoy any off-roading experience. The TRX has Bilstein dampeners that are paired with more than a foot of suspension travel. All of this sits on top of go-anywhere Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires.

Ford’s Raptor has large internal-bypass dampeners and a rear coil spring that help keep the ride smooth. It enjoys a number of choices when it comes to wheels and tires, including the option to equip it with 37″ BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. These raise the ground clearance to more than 13 inches!

Other Features

Both the TRX and the Raptor are towing beasts, just like their respective base models. In this category, the Raptor narrowly edges out the TRX. The former can tow 8,200 pounds, while the TRX sits at 8,100.

When it comes to internal features, both of these vehicles are quite customizable. They can be equipped with the same luxury packages as their base models, or left bare-bones if that’s what you prefer.

Conclusion

The Raptor and the TRX are both impressive vehicles, but the latter simply dominates the former. The difference in horsepower is staggering, and the TRX simply handles better than the Raptor. There is a price difference between the two, to be sure, but the additioal power one enjoys in the TRX is absolutely worth it.
