Today more than ever drivers in the Ames area find themselves worried about gas prices. We understand, because we share those concerns. That’s why we’re writing this piece about the 2022 RAM 1500 and its gas mileage. We know that RAM trucks are some of the most popular out there – for good reason – and we want to help drivers in our community learn more about their fuel economy. The RAM 1500’s gas mileage depends on the engine that one selects, and whether or not you opt for all-wheel drive. We’ll lay out the details below.

V6 RAM 1500 Engines’ Fuel Efficiency

There are a pair of V6 engine options for the 2022 RAM 1500. The base engine is the Pentastar V6 with eTorque; this setup uses mild hybrid technology to maximize the RAM 1500’s power! It gets 22 miles to the gallon combined when paired with rear-wheel drive and the truck’s automatic eight-speed transmission. This drops to 21 with all-wheel drive. All of this is according to the EPA.

The other V6 option is actually a diesel one! The diesel choice is the most economic of all the RAM 1500 engines, but it won’t work for everyone. Those folks who don’t mind driving a diesel vehicle will, however, enjoy 26 miles to the gallon with rear-wheel drive and 24 with all-wheel drive. Those are some pretty appealing numbers for a full-size truck!

V8 RAM 1500 Engines’ Gas Mileage

Like the V6 engine options, there are two V8 choices for the 2022 RAM 1500. Boone drivers who really need some extra power will like both of these choices. The first option is a 5.7L Hemi V8 engine that makes an impressive 395 horsepower! It gets 20 miles to the gallon combined when paired with rear-wheel drive, which is stellar for a vehicle with that much power. It can tow up to 11,610 pounds when properly equipped, offering a nice balance of utility and fuel economy. The all-wheel drive version gets 19 mpg combined.

The other V8 option is the 5.7L V8 Hemi with eTorque. This leverages RAM’s mild-hybrid technology to up the vehicle’s towing capacity to a maximum of 12,750 pounds! Both the rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions of this truck are estimated to get 17 miles to the gallon. It’s definitely a trade-off versus some of the other configurations, but Marshalltown drivers who need the extra power will find that it’s still fairly forgiving at the pump.
