Sporty and Sleek

Out of the blue corner is the new Dodge Hornet, with its sporty design and powerful engine. This vehicle redefines luxury SUVs because the Hornet is futuristic. It is the first new model in 10 years and does not disappoint. Not to be outdone, out of the red corner is the new Alfa Romeo Tonale. The Tonale is from the Italian car maker, Alfa Romeo and is a midsize luxury SUV. If you want to look up images of the two vehicles on our Facebook page, you will not notice much differences because they are very similar luxury SUVs. Hornet vs. Tonale is the luxury SUV battle of 2023 so time to grab some popcorn and enjoy the show. 

It is Electric

The Hornet starts at around $30k and is a hybrid, subcompact SUV because it can run off electricity and plugged in. It is truly the first of its kind as a plug-in hybrid SUV released over the next few years. The plug-in hybrid version of the Dodge Hornet can get 285 horsepower behind its 1.3-liter turbocharged engine. The Alfa Romeo Tonale hybrid version only has 271 horsepower and comes up a bit short in comparison. These types of vehicles are called PHEVs and stands for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. This is something that is starting to gain traction in the new vehicles of 2023. Gone are the days of waiting in line at a gas station to fill up.

Power to the Max

The base version of the Hornet GT and the Alfa Romeo Tonale share the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. However, the Hornet produces more horsepower as well at 265 vs. 256 for the Tonale. If you want even more of the boost, use the Powershot feature and it will add another 25-horsepower burst on demand. That is something the Tonale doesn’t offer and should be considered when making the comparison. Behind this powerful engine, the Hornet can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in just 6.1 seconds! 

It’s All About the Features

The Dodge Hornet and the Alfa Romeo Tonale have the same parent company, Stellantis so the vehicles have a lot of noticeable similarities. The body of the vehicles is the same as well as the powertrain, suspension and even the interior components. The Hornet comes with cool safety features like lane-keeping assistance, blind spot detection, rear parking sensors, and automatic emergency braking. If you want to pay a bit more, the Tech Pack adds automated parking, traffic sign detection, speed assist, and forward collision warning.

What We Know

We can base our information on what RAM has offered in the past and assume it can only get better from there.  For 2022, the Ram 2500 could brag about its maximum payload of 4,010 pounds when equipped with the 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine, and an impressive towing capacity of 20,000 pounds when equipped with the available 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine.  With huge torque and tow ratings, the Ram 2500 and 3500 are both immensely capable, and their fancy cabins and smooth ride provide unparalleled levels of luxury.

One rung up from the Ram 2500 is the Ram 3500, a heavy-duty truck with herculean limits. When equipped with the optional high-output Cummins diesel engine, the Ram 3500 produces an astounding 1,075 lb-ft of torque.  As far as overall towing capacity goes, the 3500 provides 34,480 pounds compared to 19,780 pounds for the 2500. That means you’ll have excess power to move your camper around with both vehicles, but truly massive hauls and loads require the addition of the 3500 engine performance features.  The 2022 Ram 3500 is also capable of hitching both Fifth-Wheel and Gooseneck trailers.  

The RAM 3500 and 4500, with their standard engines, are comparable in many aspects, but the 4500 far outshines the 3500 Regular Cab pickup in GVWR, payload, and towing capacity. These trucks are built for movement, despite a lower horsepower. The chassis cab on the 4500 is powered by the durable 6.4L HEMI® engine. This generates up to 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque for some extreme vigor on the road. The result of this power is the ability to tow up to 21,540 pounds when properly equipped.

Curious about the RAM work truck trim level options? The trim level options in 2021 included the Tradesman, Big Horn, Power Wagon, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn Edition, and Limited, so we expect the 2023 RAM to offer similar options as well.

How long do car batteries last?  Typically car batteries will last you 3-4 years. Some vehicles will allow you to get 5-6 years out of your battery, but others may start to have issues or die after just 2 years. There are several different things that can impact your car battery’s life, and checking your battery with regular maintenance will help to keep you safe and free from getting stuck with a car that won’t start.

What can impact the life of your car battery?

One of the biggest impacts on your battery that people do not know is how long you drive your car for. If you do not drive your car often or only for short periods of time (like a short 15 minute commute), it could shorten the life of your battery in the long run. Take a longer drive over the weekend or take the scenic route to work once in a while. Your battery will thank you for it.

Another issue is if you leave things running for long periods of time while the engine is turned off, like leaving on an overhead light or your headlights while the car is off. This usually happens when people leave a reading light on while the car is off and sitting in the garage all night. This can kill your battery and leave you with a dead battery in the morning.

Another issue that isn’t well-known is the climate you live in. Climates that are hot year round can impact the life of your battery versus cooler climates or climates that change with the seasons, giving your car a break from the heat each year.

How do you know if your battery is low?

One of the easiest ways to tell if your battery is starting to go bad is to pay attention to how long it takes to start it up. If your car is taking longer to turn over, your battery is likely starting to have trouble. This happens because the battery is getting weaker and needs more power to start your vehicle properly.

Another way to tell if your battery needs to be replaced is if your lights are dimmer than usual. This is another indicator that your power is weaker and therefore so is your battery.

You can also take a look at your battery and inspect it visually. Are there cracks? Signs of corrosion? Some batteries may even start to smell like sulfur (a rotten egg smell) as they age and need replaced. If you see any of these signs, you should take your vehicle in for an inspection and have the battery checked and likely replaced immediately. You do not want to find yourself stranded with a dead battery. Getting it replaced before this happens is way easier than dealing with a dead car.
