eep has built a dedicated following over the last few decades by making durable vehicles that have famous off-roading capabilities. Drivers from Ames to Des Moines – and beyond – truly enjoy taking their Jeeps off the beaten path. The freedom to adventure is a alluring, and quite American.

When shopping for a new or used vehicle, however, there are some other concerns. During this time of rising prices many Boone drivers are concerned about the cost of gasoline. As such, they might be wondering: which Jeeps get the best gas mileage? The Jeep Renegade is the most fuel-efficient Jeep, but some drivers will want a larger vehicle. This article will further investigate the question of Jeep gas mileage by detailing which Jeeps will get you the best bang for your buck at the pump.

The Jeep Renegade and Compass: Great Gas Mileage

The 2022 Jeep Renegade and 2022 Jeep Compass are both crossover SUVs that do well at the pump. The Renegade is the slightly smaller vehicle, and consequently it gets slightly better mileage. With front-wheel drive it gets 27 miles per gallon combined; the EPA estimates it gets 24 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway. Boone drivers can opt for all-wheel drive instead, which drops these numbers to 26 mpg combined (23 in the city, 29 on the highway).

The 2022 Compass, for its part, gets 25 mpg combined (22 in the city, 31 on the highway) with FWD and actually manages to keep this average rating with AWD, though its highway rating drops to 30 mpg. If you want a slightly bigger crossover but still value fuel efficiency, the Compass is a great choice!

The Jeep Holy Grail: Fuel Efficient Wranglers

The standard 2022 Jeep Wrangler uses a 3.6L V6 engine that is not terribly fuel efficient. It is beloved for other reasons: its off-roading chops and famous style being chief among them. Jeep has, however, created some Wranglers that are more economic.

The EcoDiesel engine for the 2022 Wrangler is a 3.0L turbodiesel engine that gets 25 mpg combined (22 in the city, 29 on the highway). That comes pretty close to the Renegade! These figures are for a 4WD Wrangler, which means that this configuration will still be able to crawl over broken terrain with the best of them.

Jeep has also created a hybrid version of the Wrangler. It combines a turbocharged 2.0L engine with a battery-and-motor system that output 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque! On the gas mileage front it also does well. Using the EPA’s mpg-to-electric conversion metric, it gets 49 mpg! This measures the combined use of fuel and electricity. This version of the Wrangler can also drive up to 21 miles with just electric power. This means that you can run errands in Marshalltown without using a drop of gasoline.
