Jeep achieved its early fame by producing the premier light military vehicle used by the United States’ Armed Forces during the Second World War. Since then, it has built a large following by providing civilian vehicles with both style and rugged dependability. During the second half of the 20th century, the Wagoneer was an incredibly successful vehicle. Today it is regarded as the pioneer of the SUV space. Now, Jeep is resurrecting the brand with the 2022 Wagoneer and the 2022 Grand Wagoneer. This post will compare and contrast the two.

Wagoneer vs Grand Wagoneer: Specs

The new Wagoneer comes with a 5.7L V8 engine that outputs an impressive 392 horsepower. This is supported by a 42-volt hybrid system, and the vehicle also has a cyclical deactivation feature that increases fuel efficiency. While rear-wheel drive is the standard offering on the Wagoneer, many drivers will want to opt for the available four-wheel drive in order to maximize their off-road performance. With the right features, the vehicle is also able to tow up to 10,000 pounds!

If you thought those numbers were impressive, just keep reading. The Grand Wagoneer has a 6.4L V8 engine that enjoys 471 horsepower, with four-wheel drive standard. It also enjoys a towing capacity similar to the standard Wagoneer. The Grand Wagoneer is estimated to get 13 miles per gallon in the city, and 18 on the highway. The Wagoneer, being a hybrid, is likely to have better fuel efficiency, but the EPA has not released the relevant data as of yet.

Wagoneer vs Grand Wagoneer: Technology and Interior

The new Wagoneer models, while they are durable offroading machines, also offer modern connectivity and creature comforts. The standard Wagoneer comes with a 10.1-inch infotainment screen and a 10.3-inch digital dashboard for the driver. One can also add another 10.3-inch screen for the passenger seat, giving them easy access to entertainment features. The vehicles come standard with Jeep’s Uconnect 5 software, which includes offerings like Apple Carplay, Android Auto, navigation, Amazaon Alexa integration, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The gauge cluster on the Grand Wagoneer is even bigger than its counterpart, at 12.3-inches. The Grand Wagoneer is billed as the luxury version of the new Wagoneer, and it does not disappoint. The interior of the vehicle features real wood, customizable interior lighting, and fun call-backs to the original Wagoneer, including a two-spoke steering wheel.

Both vehicles are massive on the inside. They Wagoneers come standard with second-row captain’s chairs, but these can be swapped out for bench seating, which takes the total number of occupants from 7 to 8. The Grand Wagoneer has 27 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row of seating; stowing this last row gives drivers a total of 71 cubic feet, more than enough to pack everything needed for the family vacation.

Both vehicles also enjoy cutting-edge safety features. These include blind-spot monitoring, automated emergency braking, and a lane-departure warning system.

Conclusion

The new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are fitting entries into the storied Wagoneer series. The standard Wagoneer offers lots of space, power, and luxury, while the Grand Wagoneer ups the ante in all three of these categories. This does, of course, mean that the Grand Wagoneer is the more expensive of the two. Both of these vehicles would be a great choice for you and your family.
