Crossover SUVs are very popular, and for good reason. They offer utility and style in one package. Ames drivers like this combination, as do Americans all over the country.

That said, some drivers want more out of their SUV. Sure, the standard SUV can fit a lot of junk in its trunk, but what else can it do for you? The Jeep Compass, which is one of Jeep’s smaller vehicles, still embodies the company’s off-roading legacy. That means that it can haul all the groceries you need it to, with the whole family in the car – and that it can ford a river on the way home!

This post is going to compare and contrast the Jeep Compass with the Ford Escape, another popular crossover SUV. Our aim is to help you figure out which one is the best fit for you and yours!

The Compass is Adventure-Ready

As we noted above, Jeep is beloved for its vehicles’ durability. Jeep got its start by building the vehicles that helped propel the United States to victory in the titanic struggle of the Second World War, after all. The company never let that ruggedness die away; instead, its vehicles today continue the company’s proud traditions.

The 2022 Jeep Compass is no exception. Every version of the vehicle is capable of conquering rough ground, thanks to Jeep’s powerful suspension systems and the optional 4×4 driving configuration. Boone drivers who really want to adventure in this vehicle, however, should check out the Trailhawk trim. It’s specially tuned to increase traction, ford water, and remain maneuverable even on tough ground.

Jeep has equipped the Compass with a reliable 2.4L four-cylinder engine that gets 177 horsepower. This is more than enough to propel the vehicle down the road at a great clip – or to push it over that next boulder.

The Escape Tries to Do It All

Ford designed the Escape to be a comfortable daily driver for families around the country, and it is up to that task. The base 181 horsepower engine provides enough acceleration, and the vehicle can hold most families. It has front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options – but no 4×4 – and a base towing capacity of 1,500 pounds, which is less than the Compass’ 2,000 pound capacity.

What the 2022 Ford Escape does not manage to do well, however, is to be particularly entertaining. Even if you opt for one of the more powerful engines that are available the vehicle remains sluggish to drive. It does not have available off-road tuning. It has full cell phone connectivity features that will let you place calls and play music through your phone in the car, but the Compass offers the same connectivity with its Uconnect® 5 software.

The 2022 Jeep Compass: Adventure and Utility

The Compass beats out the Escape because it offers more versatility. Both of them work as people-carriers and grocery-haulers, sure, but the Compass offers rugged fun that the Escape does not. It also has Jeep’s signature style that is recognizable anywhere you so!
