Ram has been designing and building outstanding trucks and vans for decades. The company began as a Dodge brand, but Chrysler decided to spin it off in the 2000s. Ever since, the iconic ram’s head logo has been seen on heavy-duty vehicles that manage to combine both luxury and power. The Ram 1500 and 2500 are no exception: both of these rugged trucks deliver both the power needed to get the job done and the modern conveniences that drivers appreciate.

Ram 1500 vs 2500: Specs

Drivers can choose five different engines for the Ram 1500. This is, to say the least, the height of customization. The standard engine is a 3.6 L V6 that outputs 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque. So, even this standard option is impressive, as it also has a towing capacity of 7,730 pounds! On the other side of the spectrum, Ram has a 5.7L Hemi V8 engine that enjoys 395 horsepower and more than 400 lb.-ft. of torque! This beastly engine, when installed in the 1500, raises towing capacity to 12,750 pounds. Other options include a 3.0L diesel engine and the Supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8. This latter is available only on the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. Drivers can charge from 0-60 in just 4 and a half seconds!

The 2500 has just a pair of engine options. One is the diesel-driven 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 engine. This beauty gets 370 horsepower and a whopping 850 lb.-ft. of torque. When properly equipped, drivers of the 2500 with the diesel engine can tow up to 20,000 pounds! The other engine option is the standard 6.4L Hemi V8 engine. It boasts a best-in-class standard horsepower of 410, and manages to output 429 lb.-ft. of torque. Its towing capacity is more than 17,000 pounds.

Both of these vehicles offer power enough for the toughest of jobs. The 2500 is, of course, even stronger than the 1500, but its higher price point means that some drivers will prefer the 1500. Either way, both trucks offer customization options that ensure you can find a vehicle that fits your needs. The service-oriented staff at Deery of Ames is well-equipped to help you with this – come on down and see us!

Ram 1500 vs 2500: Technology and Safety

Both the 1500 and the 2500 boast modern technological features and conveniences that you will surely enjoy. All but the base model of the 1500 can be equipped with a massive 12-inch touchscreen, and the base model still comes with a large 8.4-inch one. This same 12-inch option is available on the 2500 as well. Both vehicles enjoy a number of USB ports and connectivity features, including Apple Carplay and Android Auto, along with an optional in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot.

Ram also takes safety quite seriously. While the 2500, as a commercial vehicle, has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it has many of the same features as the 1500. This ought to re-assure prospective buyers, as the 1500 earned a 5-star rating from the NHTSA! All models of the 1500 and 2500 can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. They also have lane-keeping assist and automated emergency braking.

Conclusion

Ram continues, year after year, to produce top-of-the-line vehicles. The 1500 and 2500 are both great examples of this. The 1500 offers incredible power and luxurious amenities to prospective buyers; the 2500 offers the same things, but in even greater portions, albeit with an increased price. Both vehicles are able to handle any job you throw at them. Best of all, they can be customized to meet whatever specifications you and your loved ones – or your work crew- require. Come on down to Deery of Ames, where we can help you decide which model is best for you. Between our tradition of service and our knowledgeable staff, you won’t regret it!
